Honestly, I don't notice much of a taste difference between sweeteners. I use brown sugar or honey since they're less processed than refined sugar.

I've had good results spooning melted butter with honey on the loaf just after pulling the paddle.

Yes, there'd be a riot at TechLair if our bread machine broke.

I admit, I didn't even try baking bread from scratch until my bread machine died. I loved having hot bread waiting for me when I woke up in the morning.

And I'll try your recipe this weekend. I'm hoping the taste of the honey comes through in the final bread. I'm a huge honey fan!

Ohhh, I think you need to encourage that hobby, maybe start swapping other chores for more bread! :-D

Hi Rachel,

I'm also big on baking bread, but I'm lazy. :) I use a breadmaker and just before the last rise cycle, I pull out the mixing paddle from the pan and let the cycle complete. This gives me a loaf with a small hole in the bottom and only takes 5 minutes of my time from start to finish.

Here's my recipe for a light wheat 2lb loaf:
 12oz water
 2tbsp brown sugar or honey
 2tbsp oil (canola or olive)
 1tsp salt
 3 cups bread flour
 1 cup whole wheat flour
 1tsp dry yeast

Total cost of ingredients and electricity works out to be around 25 cents.

Off to make my daily bread but today I'll try your recipe!
